Over the last decade, I have worked in direct geriatric care, hospice, medical palliative hospital care and with the Program for the All-Inclusive Care of the Elderly. Additionally, I have expertise in addressing age-related concerns such as loneliness, caregiver stress, chronic illness, and end-of-life planning.
To empower older adults and their families to navigate challenges of aging with resilience and dignity, enhancing their overall quality of life.
Individual therapy for those aging is a specialized form of therapeutic support tailored to meet the unique emotional, psychological, and sometimes physical needs of older adults. This type of counseling aims to provide a safe and confidential space where clients can explore and address a wide range of concerns that affect their well-being in later stages of life.
Sessions often focus on issues such as adjusting to life transitions (retirement, loss of loved ones, health changes), managing chronic illnesses or pain, coping with loneliness or isolation, navigating family dynamics, and addressing mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. There may also be a need to assist clients in developing strategies for enhancing their quality of life, maintaining independence, and finding new sources of meaning and purpose.
Key aspects of individual counseling for those aging includes empathy, respect for life experience, and a collaborative approach that honors the client's autonomy and unique perspective. There may be various therapeutic techniques utilized such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), mindfulness practices, reminiscence therapy, and solution-focused therapy to help the client process their feelings, gain insight, and develop effective coping mechanisms.

Community education sessions focused on therapy for those aging play a crucial role in raising awareness, providing support, and promoting mental health and well-being among older adults. These sessions are typically designed to educate seniors, their caregivers, and the community at large about the benefits of therapy, available resources, and strategies for maintaining mental and emotional health in later life.
By offering community education sessions on mental and social health for seniors, organizations and healthcare providers contribute to destigmatizing mental health issues among older adults, promoting proactive self-care, and ensuring that seniors and their caregivers have access to the resources they need to live healthier and more fulfilling lives.
When I was in college, I started working with aging adults and their families by happenstance and I haven’t looked back since!
I have worked hand in hand with seniors and families through some of their toughest moments in life over the last 10 years.
From families dealing with lack of sleep due to the complexities of dementia, to spouses transitioning to home care with a loved one diagnosed with Parkinsons, I enjoy being alongside folks during these life transitions.
I have seen the barriers of chronic illness and aging first hand, and can see how this can trigger an array of emotions for patients and their families, immediately and long term.
There is so much unknown that life presents during this time. I know having someone to navigate the emotional complexities of these moments is crucial for overall well being as we age.
